The Helper

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.”
John 14:16-17 AMP

We have the promise of the precious Holy Spirit. Jesus is preparing His disciples for His departure, and He is reassuring them that the Father will send them another Helper. He goes on to tell them that the Holy Spirit will remain with them continually and even better, He will be in them. When we surrender our lives to the Lord, the promise – the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. He dwells in us to help us walk out this Christian journey of becoming like Jesus. Romans 8:29 says we are to be changed into His likeness and image. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to reveal Jesus to us…He is the Spirit of Truth. But when  we move over to Acts 1:8, Jesus said that you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses to tell people about Me.

In John 14 the Holy Spirit comes in me…to empower me to be like Jesus  …to be transformed and to grow into His image.   It’s all about me and  what’s happening on the inside…that’s transforming me on the outside. But in Acts, the Holy Spirit comes upon me. When He comes upon me, it is for your benefit. I become a witness– in words, deeds, and action to reveal Jesus to you. The love of the Father spills out of me and splashes on you! And now the Holy Spirit will be in you!

In this day and time we need not only the Spirit of God in us, but we need Him upon us. We need to receive this power and ability to reveal Jesus to a lost and dying world. Not everyone will come to a church and not everyone will pick up a Bible to read it, but they will see you! Let’s be seen!
